Strawberries-n-Cream Dressed with Citrus
Sometimes a simple dessert is the way to go. But simple doesn't need to be a bore. I love when a meal looks simple, but the flavor profile surprises you.
Using citrus not only provides a pop to a dish, but it also helps preserve color and freshness. Strawberry and orange, albeit both tart and tangy, are great roommates.
Strawberries-n-Cream Dressed with Citrus
2 pints strawberries
1 orange (juice and zest)
1-2 tbls powdered sugar
1 cup heavy whipping cream
2 oz orange liquor (Triple Sec or Grand Marnier)
Chop your berries in half or quarters.
Squeeze in half an orange. Grate in that half's zest.
Depending on the the time of year, or the batch of strawberries, you may need to sprinkle of some powdered sugar to sweeten it up.
Whip up your cream with a tablespoon of sugar until it stiffens.
Then add the other half of the orange's zest into the cream itself!
Now for orange liquor. This is what takes this cream over the top. Who needs the strawberries? Where's my spoon?
Feel free to let the berries marry with the zest and juice in the fridge while you're finishing dinner. Top with the heavenly whip just before serving.
And once again, we were licking the bowl. No left overs allowed.

Yum! Another strawberry favorite with flavors that 'pop', is strawberries in balsamic over vanilla ice cream :)
